Murithi M’nkubitu – Mustafa is a seasoned Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and an internationally recognized human rights defender, officially vying for the position of Senator for Meru County in the 2027 general elections.

A proud son of Meru, Murithi blends grassroots experience with global leadership. He began his public service as an IEBC Elections Coordinator in Meru before joining the United Nations, where he has served in Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Pakistan on human rights and legal assignments. He has served as Secretary of the UNHCR Global Staff Council, representing over 20,000 UN staff worldwide, and was also the global convener of the UNHRC Advisory Group on Diversity, Inclusion and Equality, whose mandate was to address racism in the UN system. 

Murithi is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi School of Law, where he was Vice-Chair of the Kenya Law Students Society. He played a key role in civic education during Kenya’s 2010 constitutional reforms and remains active in national and international human rights advocacy, including on youth-led movements and global justice crises.

His deep connection to Meru is demonstrated through years of community service, sponsoring education, covering healthcare needs, and supporting environmental conservation by leading tree-planting efforts across the county.

Murithi’s senatorial bid is anchored in values of justice, inclusive development, environmental sustainability, and accountable leadership. He seeks to champion progressive legislation, equitable revenue sharing, and strong oversight to ensure resources truly serve the people of Meru.
